How Education and Experience Aren't Enough
May 12, 2025
Hello peeps, today I am going to write about how I, as a experienced and educated web developer, am still struggling to find a job (or a source of income for that matter).
A lil background about me, I have a Bachelor's Degree on Computer Science; I also have several years of professional experience as a web/software developer. Meanwhile, I have been struggling and continue to struggle in getting a job on the field. And sadly it doesn't seem I am alone.
The Statistics
According to an article made by The Pragmatic Engineer, there has been about 35% decline on software developer jobs; at least on Indeed. The article then goes to explain some potential reasons for this drop on open positions, including but not limited to: interest rates, the tech sector, generative ai, and more.

My Opinion
It is really worrying to see the current trends in the software development market. To add salt to the wound, I remember my first time going to university and being given this dream about having great pay plus being able to keep or even be able to find software development jobs quite easily. For context, I started uni on 2015 and I graduated on 2020. And even with those high job posting numbers I still had a bad time finding a job because of (in my opinion) some insane requirements some employers might ask from you; the elephant in the room being previous work experience. Like dude, I just graduated.
In my opinion, if it was hard back in 2020 to find a software development job it surely is hard now in 2025.
Is There Hope?
At the end of the day, it is not my first rodeo being in this situation, and time has teached me that sometime in the future this situation will most likely go away. Like back then my first job came after I did a internship with a startup company. At the end of the day, I will get a source of income; whether that comes from a classic 9-5 job, a self owned business, or something else, only time will tell.
Never lose hope, and never surrender.
